MY ROLE AS A POLICE VOLUNTEER
During our lifetime, it is such a rewarding feeling to be able to make a difference within our community and surroundings by being part of a family unit. I chose to become a volunteer for the Surrey Police during the pandemic, in a role that assists the Safer Neighbourhood Team with public engagements, school talks, scam awareness and administrative duties. I thoroughly enjoy my volunteering role and meeting people from all walks of life.
Surrey Police has recruited over 500 volunteers across Surrey which includes the Police Cadets, Special Constables and Support teams. With these extra resources and recruits on hand, assistance can be delivered in all areas and departments across the force.
I reach out to all types of people within the public sector, not just the vulnerable and elderly. We are here to help people from all backgrounds.
Volunteering is about caring, sharing and expressing friendly advice. Making time to listen is our top priority within our roles. Having spent 35 years in the public sector in various roles, I am able to use my life experience to assist Surrey Police to engage with the community it serves to help deliver its key mission statement to make Surrey the ‘safest county it can be’.
